Government image bank

Use and rights

The photographs of ministers, news photos and pictures of the Government premises available on the Government image bank can be used in connection with news and information distribution.

There are, however, certain limitations to the use of the images. They may not be manipulated or altered without permission, utilised inappropriately or contrary to accepted morality and behaviour, or adopted for marketing, advertising or any other commercial purposes. Users cannot transfer publication rights to a third party. Photographers and holders of copyright must be acknowledged with respect to photographs (photographer/Prime Minster’s Office) in line with good current practice.

The Prime Minister’s Office holds the right of use to the photographs of ministers. The photographs can be used in connection with news or information concerning the minister in question. The images must not be published for abusive purposes or to insult the minister in question, personally or otherwise. The photographer and holder of the right of use must be acknowledged in connection with the image.

News photos are mainly taken by the Government Communications Unit or the Prime Minister’s Office has, through other arrangements, the right of use to them. The photographer (if known) and the holder of the right of use must be acknowledged in connection with the image (Photo: photographer/Prime Minister’s Office or Photo: Prime Minister’s Office). The Communications Unit offers new photos on Flickr, too, under the same terms and conditions.

The photographs of Government premises are by Lehtikuva Oy (currently STT-Lehtikuva). The Prime Minister’s Office holds the right of use to the images. The photographer and holder of the right of use must be acknowledged in connection with the image (Photo: STT-Lehtikuva/Prime Minister’s Office).
